How to read this

The four-stage pipeline

Stage 1 — Screen is the target. Stage 2 — Projector Output shows the content on the imager after digital pre-stretch, plus any source-pixel crop. Stage 3 — Optically Scaled shows the beam after the anamorphic optic. Stage 4 — Digitally Scaled is the final picture on screen with letterbox / pillarbox where it doesn't match screen aspect.

Brightness targets

The figure is the most the picture can deliver. SDR: target 14–16 ftL (48–55 cd/m²), never below 11 ftL. An SDR picture is calibrated down to its target, so extra light is headroom. HDR: target 88 ftL (300 cd/m²) full screen, never below 31.5 ftL (108 cd/m²). No projector reaches the level HDR films are mastered at, so an HDR projector must tone-map.
